response to Daniel Pepper's post Give Iraqis the Vote. Our Vote.
Since we are the occupying force and the Iraqis are the occupied, it only seems fair that as we push our ideals on them, they should be able to vote for/against those ideals.
This should be new international law.
If you want to occupy another country, you shall allow them to vote in your country and your country shall be fully responsible for the happiness of the occupied and you cannot leave until the occupied country is fully satisfied.
We could only wish.

response to Emran Qureshi's post We Are Making al-Qaeda Stronger
In the "war on terror" run by the US, we (here in the US) love to assume the victim role from 9/11.
I find it fascinating that in discussions with others, most people don't realize, and won't even consider the fact that the US, by its own actions (our actions) has for decades been creating every opportunity for those who think differently from us, to hate us. Then, when they show that hate, we act like victims.
It is time that we stood up to our own failings and begin to look within on how we can be better individuals that create a better country that truly becomes the ideals of just, compassion, and freedom for all.

Health
response to Kathryn Hawkins's post AIDS-vertisement
Why does it seem that even some of the most important topics to our daily living, and saving our lives must now be left to advertising?
I am very thankful for what Roberts is doing. But why aren't we taking care of this ourselves? Why aren't we taking this personally?
We need to break past our fears and discomforts and start talking to each other about sex. Especially our children.
Here in the USA the conservatives have raped our school systems of sex education and it is clear that the families have not taken on the responsibility of fully educating their children.
In addition our conservative government requires countries to whom we give money for hiv/aids to only teach absence only.
We, here in the USA are living proof that abstinence only
"education" does not work.
Please, can we start talking honestly to each other?

As I have studied how my purchases mostly negatively affect our environment (shipping our cotton overseas to have t-shirts made, than shipped back) and the abuse of people in third world countries so that the western world can own more junk for less, I have made my choice to purchase "gently used" items for anything I can. It keeps my money in my local economy and does not require use of our limited natural resources.
I will now continue on this journey with paying more attention to where I get my food, and who it comes from!
Thanks for the advice!
