response to  Lindsay Utz, Morgan Currie, Ryan Jeffery, Eli Kaufman, Eric Zimmerman, and Noella Boudart's post Happy Meal

we're ominvores and part of this earth

I have to agree with nlh. Could the world eat less meat? Sure but the key word is less not none at all. I am part of the food chain and part of the cycle of life. As a human being, I'm meant to be an omnivore. There are nutrients you cannot get in a vegan diet without artificially supplementing it. And yes soy milk fortified with calcium and B12 is a supplement. I'm just not going to place animals higher than my own nature.

I will ensure that my meat that I consume is from a humane farm. 98% of my meat comes within 50 miles of where I live from farms that I visit. The price is higher than just going to a mega mart but we eat less meat as a result. I also make sure to eat as much whole foods as I can and as little processed foods as I can. Which frankly is more than I can say for the tofutti, wheat seitan, soy cheese, veganaise eating vegans that I know.

response to  GOOD magazine and David Albertson's post Teacher Salaries

a little confusing is it really apples to apples

Hard to tell from this infographic if the white collar worker you're comparing teacher's salaries to also has at least a bachelors (in some states masters are required), whether they're in jobs that require recertification every 6 years (as in my state), etc.

Are the avg teachers salaries listed an average of the actual salaries of teachers in that state or the average of the salary ranges a teacher can make? I've seen far too many comments about teachers salaries elsewhere that list the highest salary that teachers can make in a district. They never say whether there are any teachers that actually make that salary. For example the highest one in my husband's district is something like $65K. That's for someone who has taught for at least 20 years and has a masters. No one in his district is getting that salary.

Hi friends

We've outgrown this 800-pixel wide website and we're moving to new digs.

While we pack up our things (i.e. articles and videos and stuff), we're shutting down commenting and new registrations on the current site.

Our new site is up and running at GOOD.is/.

Yours,
